Description

Charged with keeping Babe Ruth in line, and fans in the stands during Yankee Stadium's earliest years, Miller Huggins managed the New York Yankees to their first great dynasty way back in the 1920s. Get a little closer to this dedicated baseball lifer, by bringing home this antique tobacco pouch, which belonged to Huggins, who died in 1929. Constructed in suede, this 4-1/4 X 5-3/4" pouch remains supple and serviceable, and is reported as having been obtained from a Huggins family member in the Cincinnati area. Located across the front, is the name "M.J. Huggins" in boldly defined lettering of antiquated style. Though age-appropriate wear is evident, the moderate degree is much less than can be expected of such a considerably aged item, that was used on a daily basis. The drawstring at top still functions, and is finished with a small brass ball, to facilitate the draw and cinching. A small surface split located on the front near the bottom, does not penetrate through to the interior, and overall this ancient keepsake remains broadly pleasing.
