Issued at Yankee Stadium for the May 25, 1953 contest between the Boston Red Sox and host “Bronx Bombers,” this full ticket went unused and remains complete nearly 60 years later. Had the original bearer gone to “The House That Ruth Built” on that Monday evening, he would have witnessed the 42nd career home run off the bat of 21-year-old switch-hitter Mickey Mantle. The voucher features the team’s “Top Hat” stars-and-stripes themed logo, printed seating/event legends and the facsimile signature of owner Daniel Topping on the front. The reverse is home to legal disclaimers. While the Yanks lost, 14-10 that night, they went on to capture their next 18 games and breeze to a fifth straight American League pennant and a World Series triumph. The ticket shows (VG-EX) quality with corner wear and discoloration on the reverse. The perforation, meanwhile, is decidedly strong.
