Whether inaccurately or not, former catcher Thurman Munson was often described as “moody” and “sullen.” Whatever his perceived personality traits, Munson was also described as determined and unwaveringby everyone who ever encountered the no-nonsense backstop. The offered baseball was autographed by the tragically fallen star during his noteworthy Major League career. The medium, an unofficial sphere, is signed and inscribed on a side panel. The creamy orb (grade “6”) is minimally affected by handling and a few surface abrasions (confined to a single panel). In black ballpoint, Munson has inscribed: “To (unknown) – Best Wishes – Thurman Munson.” While the recipient’s name is unidentifiable, Munson’s endorsement is quite familiar, projecting (“7-8”) strength and clarity, with the aforementioned abrasions minimally affecting “Thurman.” Showcasing a fleeting signature because of the untimely circumstances of his passing, this keepsake is a cornerstone to any modern pinstriper collection. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA (cert/hologram #J28151).
