Adept in showcasing familiar mascot traits, Cleveland’s Gibbs-Conner & Co. crafted porcelain keepsakes with unmistakable identities throughout the 1950s. This New York Yankees razor blade depository is a prime example. Standing 5”-tall, that’s “Uncle Sam” represented on the ivory-colored bust with a stars-and-stripes top hat and a like-themed collar and bow tie. At the back of the head, a vertical slot facilitates the deposit of used razor blades, while the back of the base is home to raised-letter instructions and a safety warning (though these have all but completely worn away). The patriotic relic sports vibrant red-white-and-blue, though there is a small chip along the brim of the top hat.
